So, you’re interested ? ORLA TOURS tells you everything about the best areas for trekking in Laos. Enjoy the reading !

Hiking in the Luang Prabang province

You have a tight schedule? Luang Prabang is the ideal province for short trekking tours. 2- or 3-day walks are possible, and can be combined with other activities. Hiking, cultural visits, cruise on the Mekong and chill time at the waterfalls, ...

This is the ideal program to spend a week in Laos.

Walking trails abound around Luang Prabang.

The economic development is limited to the city, thus the nearby countryside has remained preserved and intact.

Hiking is the ideal way to explore tropical nature, visit the villages and discover local handcrafting. The Hmong and Khamu ethnic groups are particularly present in the area. A trek is the opportunity to meet them and discover their daily way of living.

>> Bike 'N Hike, 2 or 3 days

Go for a walking adventure in the primary jungle of Luang Namtha

The blood of Indiana Jones flows in your veins? Luang NamTha is made for you. Especially, the Nam Ha national park is a paradise for adventurers looking for authenticity. You can go hiking in dense jungle, meet local ethnic groups such as the Lanten, and ride a kayak in the heart of the jungle. Local populations isolated from modern civilization perpetuate their traditional way of life. Do not imagine sleeping in a 4 star !

A straw mattress in a bamboo hut will be your bed. That's adventure! Concerning the meals, your guide will select herbs, mushrooms, vegetables and fruits in the jungle. We’re talking about an extraordinary experience, of those which remain in the memories for a long time.

>> Remote tribes, hike into Akha & Hmong countries, 10 days

Dare a sporty hike on the land of the Akha tribe in Phongsaly

Phongsaly, land of predilection of the Akha ethnic group. These tribes live there isolated in the mountains, in complete autarky. Hiking in this region is simply traveling back in time. The tea and tobacco cultures line the steep valleys. The important elevations will delight the most adventurous trekkers. And the lucky ones will be able to witness the harvest of tea leaves on the trees, some of which are four centuries old! Far up in the north, the Phongsaly area is ideal for hikers who want to visit rural Laos, away from traditional tourist routes.

>> Northern ethnic trekking, 7 days

Leave a once-in-a-lifetime trek in Nongkhiaw

Only 3 hours drive from Luang Prabang, Nongkhiaw is the ideal starting point for treks. At the heart of the Nam Ou Valley, karst mountains and jungle are such amazing sceneries. It is one of the most beautiful region of the country! Many trails and tracks are available offering easy and difficult routes, through rice fields and at the peaks of the mountains. The real charm of this region is the omnipresence of the Nam Ou River. Navigating on a local wooden pirogue is often the best way to reach remote villages or transfer to new trails. We particularly recommend the village of Muang Ngoi. It slowly begins to open to tourism, and offers an ideal location overlooking the river and next to the surrounding rice fields. Ban Sop Chem is well worth a visit as it’s specialized in weaving and embroidery.

>> Ethnic immersion, cruise trek & tribes, 6 days

Enjoy a swim in a waterfall while trekking in the Bolaven Plateau

If you visit southern Laos, this is the ideal place to start your hikes. The vast majority of the country's coffee is produced in the area. It is still cultivated in a traditional and sustainable way. Walking is probably the best way to explore these coffee fields. In addition, the Bolaven plateau is home to different ethnic groups such as the Katus. You may be lucky enough to come across an isolated village during your trek. Finally, the undeniable asset of this region is its many waterfalls. Disseminated everywhere, they constitute an oasis of freshness and relaxation during a jungle walk.
